EASTON, Mass.-- A sweep in doubles play helped Assumption win a showdown for first place in the Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis standings Wednesday afternoon, as the Greyhounds won their 109th straight league outing with a 7-2 dual-match victory over Stonehill at the Ames Sports Complex.

Seniors Matt Stopp (Altoona, Pa.) and Dave Marshall (Newington, Conn.), junior Antonio Recalde (Ciudad del Este, Paraguay) and sophomore Jared Dorfman (Providence, R.I.) each posted wins in both singles and doubles action for Assumption (8-0, 6-0 Northeast-10), as all four won in straight sets in singles play. Recalde and Stopp teamed up for a 9-8 win at number one doubles (in a 7-5 tie-breaker), while Dorfman and Marshall were 8-5 winners at the number two spot. Junior Rich Lieberman (East Haddam, Conn.) and freshman Tom Nowak (Medfield, Mass.) claimed the other point of the day for the Greyhounds with an 8-5 triumph at number three doubles.

Sophomores Will Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) and Dustin Marshall (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) claimed the points for the host Skyhawks (10-2, 6-1 Northeast-10) on the afternoon, as Herchel posted a three-set win at number five singles and Marshall was a straight set winner at the number six singles spot for Stonehill, which saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end, the second longest skein in school history.

Stonehill will play a tri-match on Saturday afternoon with Concordia (N.Y.) and Dowling in Bronxville, N.Y., while Assumption heads to Waltham, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 dual-match that begins at 3:30 p.m.
