Men's Tennis Set To Host First And Second Round Play In NCAA East Regional, Skyhawks Square Off With Concordia (N.Y.) Thursday Afternoon

April 28, 2006

Easton, Mass.-- Upon further review…

The schedule for the 2006 NCAA Division II East Regional changed on Friday afternoon, as Stonehill will now serve as the host institution for first and second round action of the championship next weekend on the Stonehill Courts. The eighth-seeded Skyhawks of Head Coach Peter Miller, 15-5 overall and runner-up in Northeast-10 Conference play, will take on top-seeded Concordia (N.Y.) (14-7) in first round play on Thursday, May 4th on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Thursday's other first round contest will pit fourth-seeded Mercy (10-3) against fifth-seeded Assumption (16-3) on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT, and the two winners advance to second round action of the sub-regional on Friday, May 5th on the Stonehill Courts beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

The change of venue was needed when top-seed Concordia was unable to procure a site for the regional championship, as Stonehill will host its first-ever NCAA regional event after earning its second at-large berth into the field of 64 in three years on Wednesday afternoon.

The winner of Friday's second round match will advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in Kansas City, Mo. during the weekend of May 11-13.

Both the Skyhawk men's and women's tennis teams earned berths into the NCAA Division II Championships this year, making Stonehill the only Northeast-10 institution with both of its teams in the championship field of 64.
