Twelve Chieftains Earn Spots On Respective Northeast-10 Men?s & Women?s Tennis All-Conference Teams

Easton, Mass.-- A total of 12 Stonehill College men’s and women’s tennis players have earned spots on their respective 2005 Northeast-10 Conference all-conference squads in awards announced over the weekend by the league office.

In addition, Chieftain senior men’s captain Kevin Charland (North Scituate, R.I./Scituate) became the fifth Stonehill player in the last six seasons to earn the Northeast-10’s F. Paul Bogan Memorial Sportsmanship Award as selected by the conference coaches. Charland joins former Chieftain standouts Eric Nedell (2000), Keith Nedell (2001), Brian Plain (2002) and Jon Palmer (2003) in earning the Bogan Sportsmanship Award.

Freshman Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) earned first team all-Northeast-10 honors on the women’s side for Stonehill in both singles and doubles play, as she has posted a perfect 13-0 mark in singles action and teamed with junior Ashley Todd (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) for a 13-2 mark in doubles play. Granato was the lone freshman in the conference to earn first team accolades in both singles and doubles play on the spring.

Senior Susan Noblin (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) and freshman Elise Clark (Spring Lake, N.J./Saint Rose) joined Todd and Granato in earning first team all-Northeast-10 accolades in doubles play, as the duo posted a 9-3 mark on the year. Juniors Jennifer Arcabascio (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) and Anna Walsh (Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) earned second team all-league honors on the women’s side in combining for a 21-3 mark, while Todd and senior Karen McAuley (Raynham, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy) earned third team all-conference honors in singles play after posting a combined 19-8 mark for first-year Head Coach Pam Arpe’s Chieftains, who stand at 13-2 overall and finished as the runner-up in both Northeast-10 regular season and tournament competition.

On the men’s side, sophomore Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass./Milford) earned all-conference accolades in both singles and doubles play, as he was named to the second team all-league squad in singles after posting a 9-1 mark at the number five spot in the lineup. DeVita teamed up with fellow sophomore Al Santosuosso (Reading, Mass./Reading) for a spot on the third team all-conference squad after posting a 5-4 mark at the number three position.

Junior Matt Hansen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) earned third-team all-Northeast-10 honors in singles play after posting a 5-4 mark at the number six spot, while Charland and freshman John McGaffigan (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) were named to the third-team all-conference squad in doubles after notching a 9-3 record at the number two position for Head Coach Peter Miller’s Chieftains, who finished the year at 7-5 overall.
