EASTON, Mass.-- The Stonehill men’s tennis team picked up its first victory of the 2005 season on Saturday afternoon by posting a 9-0 Northeast-10 Conference dual-match triumph over American International at the Ames Sports Complex.

Senior Kevin Charland (North Scituate, R.I.) and freshman John McGaffigan (Dedham, Mass.) were winners in both singles and doubles action on the day for the host Chieftains (1-1, 1-1 Northeast-10), who also received singles victories from juniors Mike Pelaggi (Dedham, Mass.) and Matt Hansen (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) as well as sophomore Andy DeVita (Milford, Mass.).

Sophomore Al Santosuosso (Reading, Mass.) and freshman John Hurley (Stormville, N.Y.) were winners at the number two doubles spot as well for Stonehill, which also claimed default wins at number six singles and number three doubles.

The match was the season-opener for the visiting Yellow Jackets (0-1, 0-1 Northeast-10).

Stonehill hosts Pace in a Northeast-10 dual-match on Tuesday afternoon at the Ames Sports Complex beginning at 3:00 p.m., while American International hosts Merrimack in a Northeast-10 dual-match on Wednesday afternoon in Springfield, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
