EASTON, Massachusetts (October 5, 2019) – The Stonehill men's soccer team played to its first draw of the season with a score of 1-1 against the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play on Skyhawk Field on Saturday morning.

Stonehill (3-5-1, 1-2-1 NE10) saw sophomore Ian Pereira with his third goal of his career, as senior Christian Ramsey tallied his first-career assist, while senior Billy Troast recorded six saves.

New Haven had an early opportunity in the third minute of the game, as Pedro Aparicio headed the ball into Troast's hands as he received the ball from a cross on the right side of the 18-yard box. Stonehill later controlled the ball in the midfield and Ryan Chieffo (North Haven, Connecticut/North Haven) drove the ball to the feet of Ramsey, as he dribbled a bit before lifting it from the right side line to the six-yard box where Pereira was able to head home his third goal of his career at 11:07. Much of the rest of the first half included nine fouls on the Skyhawks and nine on the Chargers, as New Haven held an 8-3 shot advantage.

A little over three minutes into the second half, Stonehill worked the ball downfield, but the ball was intercepted by New Haven's defense as they moved the ball quickly to their attacking third. JP Viruet dribbled the ball a bit before sending it through the middle of the field for David Peteri to kick it with his left boot towards the back right post to even the score at one, 1-1, at 48:27. Both teams were active in the box as New Haven tallied three shots on goal to the Skyhawks two in the second half, sending the game into overtime.

There was not much action in either overtime periods, as the Chargers totaled four shots to the Skyhawks two in the 20 minutes of play, as they both played to their first draw of the season.

The Skyhawks look to bounce back against Bentley University on Wednesday, October 9 as they play in Waltham, Massachusetts with a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
