Branco earned the second CoSIDA Academic All-District first team selection in program history

EASTON, Mass. (October 4, 2018) – The 2017-18 Stonehill College men's soccer team was awarded their sixth-straight Team Academic Award, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday.

The award, which was initiated in the 1996, honors collegiate and high school men's and women's soccer teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

United Soccer Coaches recognized 773 teams, 289 men and 484 women on Thursday. Stonehill College was one of 289 schools to have their men's program honored this year.

The Skyhawks join Bentley University, Merrimack College, the University of New Haven, American International College, Franklin Pierce University, the College of Saint Rose, and Southern New Hampshire University as the Northeast-10 Conference teams to make the list this year. Stonehill led the Conference this year with their 3.34 overall GPA, as the Penmen followed with 3.28 and the Ravens averaged 3.25 last year. 

Five members of the team earned Division II Academic Achievement Awards from the Division II Athletic Director's Association (ADA) in August, including Billy Troast, Daniel Pereira, Adam Branco '18, Christian Ramseyand Conor McDonough '18. Branco was also tabbed on the NE10 Fall Academic All-Conference team as one of nine Skyhawks and earned his first CoSIDA Academic All-District first team recognition.

The men's team posted the highest percentage of student-athletes on the NE10 Spring and Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll with 77% (20 on the fall, 16 on the spring), where Pereira led the way with a 4.00 GPA in the spring. The 2017-18 squad also saw 16 members on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, with a 3.20 GPA or higher, while 14 members were on the Spring Honor Roll. The squad also saw 10 members on the Dean's List, where they earned a 3.2 GPA or better.

Troast received the St. Thomas Aquinas Medal for having the highest GPA on the team, while the 2017-18 team was honored with the Fred C. Petti Team Academic Award for having the highest GPA among all men's program.

The 2017-18 men's squad wrapped up the season with a 6-10-2 overall record and a 3-9-1 mark in NE10 play. Branco was the only Skyhawk to be named to a NE10 All-Conference team, as he made the third team, for his third recognition in his four years playing. Stonehill graduated seven seniors from the 2017-18 team. This year's team will host Le Moyne College on Saturday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. on Skyhawk Field for its first of two home games in October.
