Penmen outshoot Skyhawks 25-3
MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (September 22, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's soccer was shutout by No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University, 4-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday night.
Stonehill (3-3-1, 2-2 NE10) saw an early opportunity in the first half, but Kevin O'Shea booted the ball and was unable to finish the shot in the third minute of the game. Roughly three minutes later, the Penmen responded with a shot of their own from Jonathan Cruickshank, and Brendan Hughes stopped the score. Southern N.H.'s Alex Satrustegui collected Cruickshank's rebound that came from the left end line and put the ball into the right side of the net past the outstretched Hughes at 5:37 in the game, 1-0. Three shots and two corner kicks later, the Penmen saw Tom Marriott with an individual effort taking the ball to the top of the 18-yard box and struck the ball with his left foot into the left upper 90 for a two-goal advantage, 2-0, at 14:27. Stonehill was able to defend Southern New Hampshire for the remaining minutes of the first half, as Hughes collected five saves.
The Penmen kicked off the second half with three shots to the Skyhawks one shot in the first 10 minutes. Stonehill's Luke Fuller took the ball away from the defenders for a breakaway in the 52nd minute, but could not but a tally on the board. Southern N.H. capitalized on another opportunity as three-straight shots put in their third goal of the game, 3-0, from Salim Sidque with assist from Ramon Hofmann.
Five minutes before the end of the second half, Hofmann put in his own tally, 4-0, as he struck the ball into the right side of the net. Both teams each saw a shot in the remaining minutes, including a shot on goal for the Skyhawks' Fuller. Southern New Hampshire totaled 25 shots to Stonehill's three, while the Penmen tallied 17 fouls to the Skyhawks' five.
Stonehill return to action on Tuesday, September 25 to battle No. 6 Merrimack College with a 7:00 p.m. start time in North Andover, Massachusetts.
