Men’s Soccer Records Second Shutout, 1-0, Against American International

Skyhawks outshoot the Yellow Jackets 22-11

EASTON, Massachusetts (September 15, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team blanked Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College, 1-0, Saturday morning on Skyhawk Field after dropping two-straight matches.

For the Skyhawks (2-2-1. 1-1-0 NE10), Trevor Tubbs tallied his third-goal of his career, while Keegan Nutt registered his fourth assist of his career. Junior Brendan Hughes recorded his first-career shutout with seven saves.

With 22 fouls in the first half, both teams combined for 13 shots, as the Yellow Jackets outshot the Skyhawks 7-6. Stonehill had three opportunities in the first half, where multiple shots and corner kicks were involved, but American International was able to stop the attacking. The Yellow Jackets, on the other hand had one chance with multiple shot attempts including a defensive save by Doherty.

The Skyhawks were into full offensive mode in the second half, as three of their 15 shot attempts were on goal.


Nutt registered his fourth assist of his career

In the 61st minute, Ryan Chieffo took a free kick in the center circle and passed it to his left where Nutt came running towards him, anticipating the pass. Keegan Nutt served the ball into the box and the launch was misplayed by the goalkeeper, as Tubbs was able to collect the ball, play it off of Doherty, and get the ball past the Yellow Jackets for the lone goal of the game, 1-0, at 61:28.

American International continued to put up a fight and saw two shots on goal in the 64th minute back-to-back. Stonehill was able to respond to that with four shots of their own from the 76th minute to the 79th minute of the game. The Yellow Jackets gave it two last attempts, as a shot got off at 88:48 and then their offense jumped the line, as they were called for being offside at 89:57.

Stonehill hosts Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 19 at 4:00 p.m. on Skyhawk Field, as it continues Conference play.
