GARDEN CITY, New York (September 11, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was unable to put a tally on the board in its Northeast-10 Conference opener Tuesday night against Adelphi University, losing 2-0.

The two teams battled in the first half, as Adelphi outshot Stonehill 8-3. The Panthers also had six opportunities to get the ball in the box with six corner kicks, but the Skyhawks deferred the ball four times out of the six keeping the ball away from the net. In the 19th minute, Adelphi saw two corner kicks and one shot for a series of offense that eventually resulted in a foul on the Panthers. For the final nine minutes of the half, both teams recorded three fouls, as Stonehill was only able to get off a shot in the 41st minute that was saved by the goalkeeper.

Adelphi led the second half with a corner kick in the 49th minute and Tommy Speed was able to get a head on the ball, but Billy Troast recorded his fourth save of the game. The Skyhawks' offense continued to chip away at the Panthers but their speed caught up to them as they were called for being offside twice in five minutes. Two minutes after Adelphi was called for being offside, Patrick Guier was able to take control of the ball inside the 18-yard box firing it into the net for his first goal of the season at 58:31, 1-0.

For six minutes, Adelphi controlled the pace of the game with six shots, two that were saved by Troast, and got off three of their seven corner kicks of the second half. The Panthers saw Mads Michaelson with a shot of goal in the 80th minute and as Troast came out to collect the ball, Chris Friedlander put in the rebound for a 2-0 advantage at 79:45.

Stonehill's offense was halted for the remainder of the second half, as Adelphi totaled one more shot and two corner kicks for a total of 20 shots to Stonehill's five.

Stonehill (1-2-1, 0-1 NE10) continues NE10 play as they host American International College on Saturday, September 15 on Skyhawk Field at 11:00 a.m. during Family Weekend.
