Men’s Soccer Versus No. 22 Mercy Called Due to Lightning

Game was called prior to the start of the second half due to lightning

DOBBS FERRY, New York (September 6, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was down 1-0 at halftime against No. 22 Mercy College when the game was called due to lightning Thursday afternoon.

For the Mavericks, Ignacio Mangada scored the lone goal with assist from Freddy Marcel.

Early in the first half, Stonehill was awarded a corner kick, but was defended by Mercy in the third minute. After Mercy's third foul of the half, Marcel sent a cross to Mangada who ripped the ball into the lower right corner for a 1-0 lead at 5:57.

Mercy took control of the ball once again for about three minutes, starting at 10:07 and connected on three shots at the net. Stonehill saw its first shot of the game in the 15th minute with a header by Stephen Vercollone that was sent wide left. The Skyhawks were only able to connect once more as Patrick Doherty lifted the ball high above the cross bar in the 27th minute, while the Mavericks totaled three more shots after their spirt at the 11th minute.

Prior to the start of the second half, the game was called due to lightning.

Stonehill will continue its non-conference schedule by traveling to Rochester, New York on Saturday, September 8 to battle Roberts Wesleyan College for a 1:00 p.m. battle.
