Tubbs scored in the 84th minute for his first-collegiate goal
EASTON, Massachusetts (August 30, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was down 2-0 early in the game to Concordia (New York) College, but slid in two goals to even the score, 2-2, and battled in two overtime periods playing to first draw of the season on Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field.
For the Skyhawks (1-0-1), senior Matthew Mesiti (Albany, New York/Guilderland Central) and junior Trevor Tubbs (Northridge, California/Crespi Carmelite High School) helped even the score, while Alejandro Leal (Miami, Florida/Riviera Prep) tallied his first-collegiate assist.
The first few shots on both sides were blocked by each other's defense, and Stonehill was able to get off the first corner of the game in the 22nd minute. Ryan Chieffo (North Haven, Connecticut/North Haven) sent an inswinger from the left corner and the Skyhawks saw back-to-back shots from Justin Brehm (Latham, New York/Shaker) and Eben Degbor (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton) but neither made it to net.
In the 30th minute, the Clippers drew a foul inside the 18-yard box right in the upper corner of the left side of the box, and Marlon Buck took a penalty kick, which put Concordia ahead 1-0 at 29:43. Only a few minutes later, Concordia reacted again and extended its lead to two, 2-0, in the 34th minute, as Dennis Limani sent the ball to the lower right corner from just inside the 18-yard box for his first goal of the season. The Skyhawks were able to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, as Leal's shot on goal was punched out by the keeper and Mesiti drove in the rebound off the save for his first goal of the season and fourth-career tally at 36:30.

Thirteen of Stonehill's 25 shots occurred in the second half, and after three-straight shots by Kevin O'Shea (Quincy, Massachusetts/Quincy) in the 83rd minute, Tubbs brought the ball back into the Skyhawk's offensive third after a turnover, breaking into the right channel and sending the ball into the right side of the net tying the game at two, 2-2, in the 84th minute. For the next seven minutes, Stonehill saw two shots, while Concordia recorded one and the Skyhawks' shot on goal just nicked the top of the crossbar off a free kick from Eric Dominguez just outside the 18-yard box in the 87th minute, sending the game into overtime.
In the two ten minute periods, the Skyhawks outshot the Clippers 2-0 as the extra time played to lots of volleying and trying to get the ball into the attacking third.
Stonehill will continue its non-conference schedule by traveling to Dobbs Ferry, New York on Thursday, September 6 to battle Mercy College.
