Men’s Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision at Bentley

O'Shea tallies his first goal of the season

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 10, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision  against Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley University at Bentley Field on Tuesday afternoon.

For Stonehill (4-8-1, 1-7-0 NE10) James O'Shea (Quincy, Massachusetts/Quincy) tallied his first goal of the season and ninth of his career, while Keegan Nutt (Easton, Massachusetts/Oliver Ames) recorded his first assist of the season and third of his career.

Bentley's (1-8-2, 1-5-2 NE10) Jake Goldstein and Julian Stewart registered the tallies, while Dan Anderson picked up the assist.

With a heavily active Falcon offense, Stonehill was able to breakaway around the 12th minute of the game, as O'Shea took the ball from Bentley and chipped it to Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck). But the defense was able to stop Branco from dribbling any farther as the Falcons regained possession.

Later in the first half, the Skyhawks had another attempt at putting the ball in the net, as Stonehill had a free kick about 25 yards out and Branco headed the ball from the left side of the net to Patrick Doherty (West Milford, New Jersey/Saint Joseph Regional), who headed the ball over the crossbar in the 27th minute.

With less than five minutes remaining in the first half, Bentley won possession on a Skyhawk goal kick and two Falcons passed it from right to left to get a shot off before Goldstein collected the rebound and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Bentley jumped on board once again in the 62nd minute of the game, with a pass from Anderson to Stewart who bicycle kicked the ball to the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

Just about 10 minutes later, O'Shea received the ball right outside the six-yard box from Nutt, who then collected the pass before striking it to the back right post with his left foot to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, in the 72nd minute of the game.

Stonehill fought for the remaining 18 minutes of the game, as the Skyhawks totaled five shots in the final five minutes of the game. The Falcons outshot the Skyhawks 11-6 for the 2-1 decision.

Stonehill hosts Saint Michael's College on Saturday, October 14 for a 2:00 p.m. game on Skyhawk Field.
