O'Brien tallies his third goal of the season

EASTON, Mass. (September 23, 2017) – The Stonehill men's soccer team was defeated by No. 14 Southern New Hampshire University, 4-2, Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field after the Penmen scored two goals in less than 20 seconds in the second half during Northeast-10 Conference play.

Stonehill's (4-4-1, 1-3-0 NE10) saw senior Connor O'Brien (Schenectady, New York/Schenectady) and Mackenzie Hoglund (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) record the goals, as Justin Brehm (Lathem, New York) and Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) registered the helpers.  

Southern New Hampshire (6-0-1, 3-0-1 NE10) saw four different goal scorers, including Alex Satrustegui, Romain Daniellou, Daniel Jones, and Michael Rowley. Rowley also tallied the assists two of the other goals for a four-point day, while Tom Marriott and Satrustegui picked up the other helpers.

The game started off very even-keeled as both teams saw possession on their respective sides of the field, until Southern New Hampshire registered its third and fourth shots of the game. Satrustegui ripped the ball at the post, and Rowley collected the rebound and struck the ball into the back right post for a 1-0 lead in the 26^th minute of the game.

As play continued, Stonehill was able to tie the game at one, 1-1 in the 40^th minute as O'Brien launched the ball from 25 yards out, as Brehm set him up on the left side of the field sending the ball to the back right post.

Stonehill continued the scoring momentum into the second half of the game, as Branco found Hoglund in front of the net for a one-touch to the back left post for a 2-1 lead in the 57^th minute. The Penmen reacted to the goal with their own equalizer in the 60^th minute, as Rowley found Daniellou at the top of the 18-yard box, sending the ball to the back of the net, 2-2.

As play continued, Southern New Hampshire continued to pressure Stonehill with shots at the net. The Penmen were able to capitalize on two balls in 17 seconds for goals in the 70^th and 71^st minute of the game. Rowley started the quick restart after a Stonehill foul to find Jones for a shot to the back right post, 3-2. Then, Satrustegui was able to head the ball to the back right post from the left side of the box, as Marriott lobbed the ball over to him for a two-goal lead, 4-2.

Stonehill held the shot advantage in the remaining minutes of the game as they were able to get four shots off, but the Penmen were able to fend off the Skyhawks to take the victory, 4-2.

Stonehill hosts Merrimack College on Tuesday, September 23 for its Purple and White match on Skyhawk Field for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
