Branco tallies his fifth multi-goal game in his career

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 16, 2017) – The Stonehill men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory against American International College on Abdow Field Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play.

For Stonehill (4-2-1, 1-1-0 NE10), senior Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) recorded his fifth multi-goal game of his career by scoring two goals, while Mackenzie Hoglund (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) scored his third goal of his career.

American International College (2-3-0, 1-1-0 NE10) saw Alexandre Frank score the lone goal, as Josip Validzic recorded the assist.

The Yellow Jackets tallied the first shot and corner kick of the game in the 10th minute, and the game was quickly in their hands with a goal in the 11th minute. Validzic threw in the ball and Frank headed the ball at the crossbar and it bounced into the net for a 1-0 advantage.

Stonehill scored the equalizer in the 31st minute of the game with a strike from Branco that shot passed the goalkeeper's left side, 1-1. The Skyhawks outshot the Yellow Jackets 7-3 at the end of the half.

As play toggled back and forth in the second half, American International racked up seven shots, matching seven shots for Stonehill. Two of the Skyhawk's shots included another goal by Branco in the 80th minute, as he put the ball in the net after a deflection off a defender. The final shot for the Skyhawks came from Hoglund in the 89th minute, as Branco found the sophomore in front of the net and Hoglund chipped the ball over the keeper after he challenged him in the 18-yard box.

American International tallied one last shot in the final seconds of the game, but Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Coyle & Cassidy) picked up the ball for his second save of the game.

Stonehill travels to Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 20 for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
