Men’s Soccer Plays Nyack to 1-1 Draw

McShane scores second-collegiate goal

EASTON, Mass. (September 2, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Nyack College in non-conference play on Saturday night at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Stonehill's (1-0-1) freshman Michael McShane (Needham, Massachusetts/Needham) tallied his second-collegiate goal against the Warriors. Senior goalkeeper Connor McDonough (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgwater-Raynham Regional) tallied four saves on the night, but played a huge part in stopping Nyack's offense from scoring.

McShane recorded his second straight goal in two games in the 35th minute, when senior forward Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) caught a long ball on the left foot from behind him and McShane raced past two defenders to tip it into the left side of the net for an early 1-0 lead. The goal puts the freshman on top for the Skyhawks as the leading scorer.

Stonehill held a 5-3 shot advantage in the first half, as the Warriors leveled the playing field matching the Skyhawks' five shots in the second half.

Early in the second half, Nyack would answer, as Stonehill collected a foul inside the box, drawing a penalty kick. Finn Reese took the kick and tied up the game, 1-1, in the 54th minute.

McDonough came up big in double overtime protecting the net and totaling four saves in the draw.

Stonehill hosts Daemen College on Monday, September 4 for an 11:00 a.m. matchup on Skyhawk Field.
