Men’s Soccer Shutout By Bentley, 3-0

McDonough tallies five saves in the loss

Connor O'Brien (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland Central) talles two of Stonehill's nine shots in the afternoon contest

EASTON, Mass. (October 5, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was handed a 3-0 setback by Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action Wedneday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Stonehill's (4-6-0, 2-4-0 NE-10) goalkeeper Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) recorded three saves off the Falcons six shots on goal.

Bentley (1-6-2, 1-4-1 NE-10) had three separate goal scorers including Forrest Scaringe, Eric Morra and Sean Sullivan. Harrison Rapant tallied five saves in net, as the Skyhawks were unsuccessful in their five shots on goal.

The first nine minutes of the game were fairly matched as neither team was able to get a shot off, but the Falcons were able to see their first eight corner kicks. At about the 10-minute mark, Bentley set up what would be its first shot. Sullivan sent a cross from the right to Scaringe who connected on a header driving the ball past McDonough to the right post, putting the Falcons up 1-0.

As both teams continuously fought for possession of the ball, Bentley was able to get off three shots before the 20-minute mark. One of the three included a goal by Morra who collected the ball off a cross from Sullivan, once again finding the right post for a 2-0 advantage. Stonehill's defense contained Bentley as the clock winded down to halftime.

With a very physical second half, neither team was able possess the ball long enough to get off many shots, but Bentley was able to capitalize once more before the game was over. About 50 seconds before the horn sounded, the Falcons were in a scramble in front of the net with the Skyhawks' defense guarding the way, but Zaepfel was able to kick the ball to Sullivan who was inside the six-yard box for Bentley's third goal to the right post at 89:12.

Stonehill travels to No. 14 Adelphi University on Saturday, October 8 for a 6 p.m. Northeast-10 matchup.
