McDonough stopped the Penmen from scoring in the second half

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 21, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was unable to fend off Southern New Hampshire University Wednesday night, 2-0, at Larkin Field.

Stonehill's (3-3-0, 1-2-0 NE-10) junior goalkeeper Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) tallied three saves in the loss and gave up two goals in the 90 minutes played.

Southern New Hampshire's (5-0-0, 3-0-0 NE-10) netminder Nick Zucco only recorded one save from the Skyhawks lone shot on goal.

The Penmen acted early on the Skyhawks as Yannis Becker crossed the ball into the box for a one touch goal from Rayane Boukemia into the bottom right corner of the net in the second minute of the game for a 1-0 advantage. Stonehill's closest opportunities all came in the first half as Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) notched three shots and Keegan Nutt (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and James O'Shea (Quincy, Mass./Quincy) recorded one a piece.

In the 29th minute, Penman Enzo Giulliani beat McDonough at the crease, but Zach McCormick (Westfield,Mass./Suffield Academy) found himself laying out to kick out an opportunity for Southern New Hampshire. A minute later, the Penmen capitalized on a corner kick by Becker, as Giuliani headed the ball into the net, giving Southern New Hampshire a 2-0 lead.

The Penmen controlled the second half, as they tallied eight shots and four corner kicks, but they weren't unable to capitalize as the Skyhawk's back line stood its ground shutting Southern New Hampshire out for the final 45 minutes.

Stonehill hosts Concordia (N.Y.) College on Saturday, September 24 on Skyhawk Field for its final nonconference matchup of the season beginning at 1 p.m.
