EASTON, Mass. (September 17, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team fell early to Franklin Pierce University, 3-1, Saturday morning on the Skyhawk Field.

Stonehill's (3-2-0, 1-1-0 NE-10) lone goal came from freshman Keegan Nutt (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) who was assisted by junior Andrew Humphrey (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Feehan) late in the second half.

Franklin Pierce (4-0-0, 2-0-0 NE-10) had three separate goal scorers including Hamish Cadigan, Jacob Blixt, and Marius Preber. Casey Schehl assisted Cadigan's goal in the first half and Preber's goal in the second.

The Skyhawks came off strong as an early corner kick was set up before the first minute of play, but Stonehill was unable to capitalize on the kick. The field of play was just about even as the Skyhawks and the Ravens battled with corner kicks and shots on goal before Franklin Pierce was able to serve Cadigan the ball in the 20th minute. Schehl crossed the ball to Cadigan who shot the ball past the junior goalkeeper Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) into the right corner.

The rest of the first half remained silent as Franklin Pierce edged Stonehill by one shot, 8-7.

Franklin Pierce came out of halftime with fire, as Blixt was able to score in the 54th minute off of his own rebound, putting the Ravens up 2-0. After the goal, Stonehill squeezed in a shot before the Ravens' Preber opened up the game, 3-0, by finding the back of the net in the 58th minute as Schehl tipped the ball to Preber for his second assist of the match.

Stonehill was able to capitalize on one of its 11 shots of the contest as Humphrey found Nutt with a cross to him inside of the 18-yard box in the 79th minute of the game, 3-1. Neither team would record another tally giving Franklin Pierce the nod, 3-1.

Stonehill travels to Southern New Hampshire University for a Wednesday, September 21 Northeast-10 contest which will begin at 7 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
