Sophomore Adam Branco notches sixth goal of season

Springfield, Mass. (October 13, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the American International Yellow Jackets in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night from Ronald J. Abdow Field.

Sophomore forward Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Connecticut/Naugatuck) scored his team leading sixth goal of the season in the 14th minute, when Senior captain Evan Devanney (Concord, New Hampshire/Concord) sent a free kick from 45 yards out into the Yellow Jackets box. Branco tracked the ball in the air, raced through the box and headed the ball into the upper left corner of the net to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead. The goal puts Branco in a tie for third most goals (6) and points (15) in the conference.

The Yellow Jackets would answer in the 41st minute. Senior Kyle Kazukynas (Enfield, Connecticut/Enrico Fermi) threw the ball in from the left sideline to Juan Correa (Wellington, Florida/Palm Beach Central) who chested the ball down to his feet and played it directly back to the senior. Kazukynas received the ball and from 25 yards out and ripped a shot to the top right corner.

The contest ended in a tie, as neither squad was able to score in the two overtime sessions. Stonehill senior goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham Regional) was impressive in net, making seven saves to preserve the tie and point for Stonehill.

Stonehill (5-5-2, 2-4-2 NE-10) will be back in action this Saturday, when the Skyhawks host the Le Moyne College Dolphins in a 12 p.m. NE-10 contest. The Yellow Jackets travel to West Haven on Saturday to take on the New Haven Chargers for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
