Senior goalkeeper Luke Besse registers first shutout of 2015 with four-save effort

EASTON, Mass. (September 29, 2015) – Senior goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham Regional) posted a four-save shutout, but the offense was unable to break through as Stonehill College played to a 0-0, double overtime draw with Assumption College this afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Skyhawk Field.

Besse made one save in each half, and one in each overtime session en route to his first clean sheet of 2015 and fourth of his career. Senior Dana King (Windham, Maine/Windham) turned aside four shots on the other end for Assumption.

Besse kept the game scoreless in the 32nd minute, when Assumption junior Hector Sola (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) sent a low, skidding shot toward the left post. The senior goalkeeper made a diving stop to his right to deny the Greyhounds a 1-0 advantage.

Both teams had chances to take a lead late in the first half, as Stonehill had a goal called back and Assumption junior midfielder Matt Gilson (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) hit the post with a shot in the 39th minute.

Stonehill senior midfielder R.J. Aprile (Carmel, New York/Kennedy Catholic) also had a solid opportunity with a clean look at the goal in the waning seconds of regulation, but King was there to stop the attempt.

The Skyhawks held a 14-11 edge in shots this afternoon, while the two teams each took seven corner kicks.

Stonehill (4-4-1, 1-3-1) will be back at Skyhawk Field on Saturday against Saint Michael's College with the second of three straight home matches. Assumption (1-6-2, 1-2-2 NE-10) is set to hit the road again on Friday night for a conference contest at American International College.
