Senior goalkeeper Adam Colella makes eight saves for Skyhawks
MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 30, 2014) – Stonehill College kept the game scoreless for almost 35 minutes, but top-ranked Southern New Hampshire University came away with a 2-0 victory this evening in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Larkin Field.
Southern New Hampshire junior midfielder Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Connecticut/New Britain) broke the scoreless tie at the 34:49 mark when he took a pass from graduate midfielder Brian Grisell (Brookfield, Connecticut/Brookfield) at the top of the 18-yard box and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
Stonehill trailed by a single goal at halftime, but junior forward Jose Seoane (A Coruna, Spain/Nuestra Senora del Carmen) doubled the home team's lead in the 59th minute with an unassisted strike after getting past a Skyhawk defender in the box.
Stonehill senior goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) made a season-high eight saves for the Skyhawks. Colella made a combined nine saves in his first two starts of the season last week.
The Penmen held Stonehill to three shots all game, two of which came off the foot of junior forward Drew Montano (Avon, Connecticut/Avon). Montano entered tonight's contest with goals in each of his last two matches.
Penmen graduate goalkeeper Dom DiMaggio (Rome, New York/Rome Free Academy) earned his third shutout of the season, making one save in the process.
Southern New Hampshire, which is currently ranked first in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Poll, has now won 26 consecutive NE-10 contests, and the Penmen are unbeaten in their last 31 matches overall dating back to last season.
Stonehill (5-3-1, 3-2-0 NE-10) will have another opportunity to knock off an undefeated, nationally ranked squad on Friday afternoon, as the Skyhawks are set to host No. 5 Southern Connecticut State University at Skyhawk Field. Southern New Hampshire (8-0, 5-0 NE-10) will look to keep its perfect record intact on Friday at American International College.
