O’Brien Named NE-10 Rookie Of The Week

Guilderland, N.Y. native registered five points on two goals and an assist in two games

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman midfielder Connor O'Brien (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie of the Week for men's soccer, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.

This past week, O'Brien continued the impressive start to his collegiate career, as he recorded a pair of goals and an assist to increase his team-leading point total to ten through six matches. The first-year midfielder opened the week on Wednesday by lifting the Skyhawks to a 1-0 victory over NE-10 rival Saint Anselm College with his goal in the 78th minute.

On Saturday, O'Brien factored into both Stonehill goals at Adelphi University, as he found the back of the net for the fourth time this season in the 56th minute before assisting on classmate Adam Branco's first career tally in the 71st minute.

O'Brien scored a goal in his first collegiate contest, a 3-0 victory over Assumption College in the Catholic Cup opener on September 5th in Colchester, Vermont. Two games later, he netted the equalizer in the 75th minute to help Stonehill earn a 1-1 draw against Roberts Wesleyan College in its home opener. O'Brien registered his first assist the next day, as Stonehill topped Nyack College, 3-0, leading up to his five-point performance last week.

The Guilderland, New York native's ten points so far this fall leads the Skyhawks and ranks fifth in the NE-10, including first among freshmen. O'Brien has been the driving force behind Stonehill's improved offense, which is currently scoring twice as many goals (1.7) as last year's team (0.8) through the first third of the season.

A 2014 graduate of Guilderland High School, O'Brien was a two-year starter for head coach Mike Kinnally's Flying Dutchmen. As a senior, O'Brien led his team to an 18-4 record while earning All-Suburban Council and All-Area Honors.

Stonehill (3-2-1, 1-1-0 NE-10) will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon, as the Skyhawks are set to host rival Bentley University at Skyhawk Field. Stonehill will then hit the road on Saturday for a match at the College of Saint Rose.
