Junior forward Craig Moreau registers a goal and an assist in two-minute span early in second half
EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2014) – Two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half spurred Stonehill College to a 3-0 victory over Nyack College this afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Skyhawk Field.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Stonehill began to attack at the outset of the second half. In the 48th minute, junior forward Craig Moreau (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) sent a cross floating past the net, and classmate R.J. Aprile (Carmel, New York/Kennedy Catholic) snuck the ball just over Nyack sophomore goalkeeper Phillip Mol's (Pomona, New Jersey) hands with an acrobatic header to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.
Just over a minute later, Moreau doubled Stonehill's advantage when he collected a rebound off a deflection from freshman midfielder Connor O'Brien's (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland) shot on Mol and buried it in the back of the net.
Stonehill maintained its two-goal lead for the next 35 minutes before going up 3-0 in the 85th minute on senior midfielder Michael Ulmer's (Woodbury, New Jersey/Woodbury) first career goal. Ulmer's tally came on a re-direction of a shot by classmate Michael Thomas (Ellington, Connecticut/Ellington), as the Skyhawks reached the three-goal mark for the second time this season after doing so only once last fall.

Junior goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham Regional) made six saves and earned his second shutout of the season. Besse also stopped Nyack's best scoring opportunity of the contest, a penalty kick in the 82nd minute that would have brought the Warriors to within one goal. Nyack freshman midfielder Francois Legoedec (Etreville, France) was awarded the penalty kick after a Stonehill defender was whistled for tugging on a Warrior jersey in the box, but his attempt was rejected as Besse dove to his left to deflect the ball away.
Stonehill had an additional scoring chance in the 76th minute, when freshman forward James O'Shea (Quincy, Massachusetts/Quincy) rattled the crossbar from just outside the 18-yard box, narrowly missing her first collegiate goal.
Following this morning's contest, Stonehill (2-1-1, 0-0-0 Northeast-10) is set to open its NE-10 slate on Tuesday afternoon against Saint Anselm College at Skyhawk Field. Nyack (0-3-1, 0-1-0 CACC) returns to action on Tuesday as well, as the Warriors are scheduled to host Bloomfield College.
