Christopher welcomed as newest member of Skyhawk men's soccer program

EASTON, Mass. (September 11, 2014) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team has announced the signing of 14-year old Christopher Fuller of Hanover, Massachusetts, to its roster through Team IMPACT.

Team IMPACT (Inspire, Motivate, Play Against Challenges Together) is a New England based non-profit organization that aims at improving the quality of life for kids facing life-threatening illnesses by creating unparalleled team based support systems with area college athletic teams. Christopher is the latest from Team IMPACT to join the Skyhawk family as the men's soccer team joins the baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, field hockey and ice hockey teams to be involved with the program.

"Today is a big day for the Stonehill men's soccer program," said head men's soccer coach Jim Reddish. "We have the pleasure of adding 14-year old Christopher Fuller to our team today through our partnership with Team IMPACT."

Christopher was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects the respiratory and digestive systems, at birth. Cystic fibrosis clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. It also obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

Christopher was in the neonatal intensive care unit for a month after birth, but was then able to avoid being hospitalized until he turned ten years old. Since turning ten, he has been hospitalized several times and takes numerous medications every day, in addition to completing daily therapies to keep him as healthy as possible.

Like any 14-year old, Christopher enjoys pizza, cartoons, and video games. He is also a fan of scary movies, with "The Descent" being one of his favorites.

"Our student-athletes are all extremely fortunate to still be playing soccer daily," Reddish continued.  "While winning is not the most important thing in life, it is why we train and why we work together as a team toward that common goal.  Winning is how we are measured, but the impact we can have on Christopher's life is immeasurable.  I know we will all learn from him as well.  I am thrilled he is joining us, and excited for our 2014 season."
