Colchester, Vt. (September 6, 2014) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team fell to Saint Michael's College, 2-0, this afternoon in the championship match of the Catholic Cup at Duffy Field in Colchester, Vermont.

Saint Michael's struck first in the tenth minute, when Purple Knights senior midfielder Simon Rodriguez (Miami, Florida/Felix Varela Senior) collected a through ball from classmate Josh Vlasich (East Kingston, New Hampshire/Exeter) and beat Stonehill junior goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham Regional) with a shot to the lower right side of the net to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage.

Vlasich, who scored twice in the Purple Knights' opening round victory over Saint Anselm yesterday, upped Saint Michael's lead to 2-0 in the 71st minute with his third goal of the season. The senior midfielder was named Tournament MVP for his performance following the contest.

Saint Michael's senior goalkeeper Nicco Roque (Miami, Florida/Gulliver Prep) made four saves and posted his second shutout in as many days to preserve the victory for the Purple Knights. Roque, along with senior defenders Colby Ajoku (Weymouth, Massachusetts/BC High) and O.J. Rivas (Miami, Florida/Gulliver Prep) also earned All-Catholic Cup honors.

A day after registering his first career shutout, Besse made one save but gave up a pair of goals before giving way to freshman goalkeeper Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Coyle Cassidy), who made two stops in his first collegiate action.

Freshman midfielder Connor O'Brien (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland), who scored his first collegiate goal in yesterday's win over Assumption, along with junior forward Drew Montano (Avon, Connecticut/Avon) and senior defender Zane Stanton (Dartmouth, Massachusetts/St. Sebastian's) earned All-Tournament honors for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 Northeast-10) is off until Friday afternoon, when the Skyhawks are set to host Roberts Wesleyan College at 3 p.m. in their 2014 home opener. Saint Michael's (2-0, 0-0 NE-10) will look to stay perfect this Wednesday at Queens College.
