Stonehill Drops 4-0 Match At Franklin Pierce

Skyhawks shut out for second consecutive contest

RINDGE, N.H. (October 8, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team suffered another setback tonight, falling 4-0 to Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 play at Sodexo Field.

Franklin Pierce senior captain Gareth Dudney (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) put the Ravens out in front just over 14 minutes into the match, when he converted a penalty kick opportunity. Franklin Pierce continued to attack, going up 2-0 in the 25th minute on a goal by junior midfielder David Lima (Everett, Mass./Everett). The Ravens added to their commanding advantage about ten minutes later, when Dudney cleaned up a rebound following a save by Stonehill junior goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep).

Dudney would complete his hat trick with another marker in the 61st minute, this time beating Stonehill backup goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional). Franklin Pierce, which was picked to finish second in the Northeast-10 preseason poll, outshot the Skyhawks 26-9 in the match. Ravens junior goalkeeper Sam Meza (Whittier, Calif./Whitter) made two saves and earned the shutout.

Stonehill (3-7-0, 2-5-0 NE-10) will be back in action this Saturday, when the Skyhawks host the University of New Haven Chargers in a 1 p.m. NE-10 contest. Stonehill's 2013 Purple & White Game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th against Merrimack College. Franklin Pierce (4-5, 3-3 NE-10) returns to the pitch on Saturday as well, when the Ravens host the College of Saint Rose at 7 p.m.
