Skyhawks drop to 2-2 in Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. (September 25, 2013) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team ceded a second half goal today at Bentley College, falling 1-0 to the Falcons in Northeast-10 play.

Bentley junior Tom Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) headed home a corner kick from freshman Jose Tirado (Lima, Peru/Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt) in the 63rd minute to give the Falcons the only score of the afternoon. With the defeat, Stonehill has now lost consecutive NE-10 matches after opening conference play 2-0.

The Skyhawks had difficulty generating offense for the second straight match, as Bentley goalkeeper Jack Blatchford (Douglas, Mass./Douglas) stopped both of the shots that came his way, earning his first shutout of the season. Stonehill was also shut out in its last match, a home contest against Adelphi on Saturday. Junior captain Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep) made four saves in net for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (3-4-0, 2-2-0 NE-10) returns to the pitch a week from today, as preseason NE-10 favorite Southern New Hampshire University visits Skyhawk Field for a conference clash. The Penmen, who came into the 2013 season ranked seventh in the nation, have won their first two NE-10 matches this season over Franklin Pierce and New Haven, recording two shutouts while scoring five goals. Bentley (3-3-0, 2-2-0 NE-10) faces a tough challenge in its next match, as the Falcons will look to take down NE-10-leading Le Moyne Saturday afternoon in Syracuse.
