Junior captain from Wilmington, Mass. earns distinction for first time

EASTON, Mass. (September 16, 2013) – Stonehill College junior captain goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep) was named the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week earlier today by the conference office.

Colella made a career-high 11 saves in a 2-0 shutout of the College of Saint Rose in Stonehill's Northeast-10 opener on Saturday. The shutout was Colella's first of 2013 and sixth of his career. In two games last week, the junior posted a goals-against-average (GAA) of 2.00 with 13 saves.

Last season, Colella started all ten of the games that he played for Stonehill, ranking sixth in the NE-10 with a 1.27 GAA. He notched shutouts in back-to-back matches for the Skyhawks in their final two contests of the season.

As a freshman in 2011, Colella earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team after tying for third in the conference with nine wins. He started in 16 games for the Skyhawks, recording 51 saves and a 1.47 GAA. Colella compiled three shutouts as a freshman, including one in his first collegiate start on September 3rd against Concordia (N.Y.).

Stonehill (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) is on the road tomorrow, playing at conference rival Saint Anselm College at 4 p.m. In last year's match-up between the two teams, Colella made five saves against the Hawks, recording his first shutout of the year. The Skyhawks will be home this Saturday for a match at 11 a.m. against Adelphi University, also in NE-10 play.
