Stonehill Blanks Saint Anselm, 1-0

Newly minted NE-10 Rookie of the Week, Montano, delivers game-winner

Freshman forward Drew Montano scored his fourth goal of the season in Stonehill's 1-0 win over Saint Anselm.

EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 shutout against Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Freshman forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon) scored the eventual game-winner just five minutes and 35-seconds into play and sophomore goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) earned his first shutout of the season with a five-save effort to lead the Skyhawks on the afternoon.

Junior midfielder Kevin Gilmartin (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) initiated Montano's marker in the first half with a perfect service to the freshman forward near the penalty circle off of a free kick attempt from about 30-yards out. Montano, who was never marked in the box, headed home a shot into the lower right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Hawks goalkeeper Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) turned away two shots, one in each half.

Saint Anselm tested Colella late in the contest as the sophomore goalkeeper made four out of his five saves in the second stanza including three stops in the last ten minutes of play.

The Skyhawks were outshot by the Hawks, 16-12, and lost the corners matchup, 7-2.

Stonehill (4-11-1, 3-9-0 NE-10) hosts UMass Lowell on Friday, October 26 on Skyhawk Field at 3:30 p.m. on "Senior Day."
