Stonehill Stymied By Merrimack, 1-0

Lemus Pena nets game winner in 21st minute

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (October 6, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team lost to Merrimack College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at Martone-Mejail Field.

Senior forward Franklin Lemus Pena (Revere, Mass./Chelsea) finished on a through ball from senior back Olof Lindhe (Stockholm, Sweden/Bromma Gymnasium) near the top right corner of the box for his third goal of the season at the 20:51 mark and the eventual game winning goal to lift the Warriors.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jose Silva (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) stopped two shots to earn his fifth shutout of the season. Skyhawks freshman goalkeeper Luke Besse (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional) made two saves in the loss.

Merrimack held a 10-8 advantage in shots and a 3-2 margin in corner kicks.

Freshman forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon) and classmate R.J. Aprile (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) both recorded a shot on net for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (2-9-1, 1-8-0 NE-10) hosts Queens (N.Y.) College in non-conference play on Wednesday, October 10 on Skyhawk Field at 3:30 p.m. Merrimack (7-2-1, 5-2-0 NE-10) travels to Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
