Saint Michael’s Shuts Out Stonehill, 2-0

Skyhawks give up a pair of second half goals to Purple Knights

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September 29, 2012) – The Saint Michael's College men's soccer team scored twice in the second half to earn a 2-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday afternoon at Duffy Field.

Junior forward Anthony Stanley (La Ceiba, Honduras/Saint Johnsbury Academy) broke open a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute roofing a line drive shot into the upper left corner of the net behind Stonehill sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Rincon (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) for his seventh marker of the season. Senior midfielder Ian Rowe (Waterville, Maine/Waterville Senior) was awarded an assist on the tally.

Sophomore back Colby Ajoku (Weymouth, Mass./Boston College HS) provided the insurance tally for the Purple Knights in the 89th minute as he chipped a shot over Rincon into the back of the net after gathering a through ball from  classmate Philip McCormick (Starksboro, Vt./Mount Abraham Union).

Senior goalkeeper Logan Kingman (New Bern, N.C./New Bern) earned the shutout with three saves in the contest. Rincon turned away five shots including three in the second half.

The Purple Knights outshout the Skyhawks, 17-12, while Stonehill held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Stonehill (1-8-1, 0-7-0 NE-10) hosts American International College in NE-10 action on Wednesday, October 3 on Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m. Saint Michael's (6-2-2, 2-2-2 NE-10) welcomes UMass Lowell to Duffy Field on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
