Stonehill Falls To New Haven, 1-0, In Double Overtime

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (September 11, 2012) – For the second-straight contest, the Stonehill College men's soccer team lost in overtime as the Skyhawks fell to the University of New Haven, 2-1, in double overtime on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at Kayo Field.

Senior forward Joseph D'Antonio (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) supplied the game-winner in the 106th minute as he won a 50/50 ball just outside of Stonehill's 18-yard line, surged into the box and struck a shot into the upper right corner for the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep) kept the Skyhawks in the game as he made eight saves total (four in the second half). Senior goalkeeper Anastasios Petridis (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) turned away four shots in net for the shutout, his third of the season.

Stonehill's best scoring chance came in the 97th minute off of a header from freshman midfielder R.J. Aprile (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) that was destined for the top corner of the net before Petridis punched it away.

The Chargers outshot the Skyhawks, 21-7, and won the corners matchup, 9-2.

Stonehill (1-3-1, 0-2-0 NE-10) hosts Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, September 15 on Skyhawk Field at 11 a.m. New Haven (3-1-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) travels to Merrimack College on Saturday for a 6 p.m. matchup.
