Montano Earns NE-10 Select Sport Rookie of the Week Honors

Freshman forward scored twice in Stonehill's first win of the season

EASTON, Mass. (September 5, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Select Sport Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career by the league office, it was announced yesterday.

Montano led Stonehill to its first win of the season on Saturday against Concordia (N.Y.) scoring two goals including the eventual game-winner in his second career collegiate game. His goal at 49:17 turned out to be the difference in the win over the Clippers.

The freshman forward comes to Stonehill after a standout four-year career at Avon High School where he earned All-Conference and All-Hartford Current honors as a junior and All-New England accolades as a senior. Montano, an honors student at Avon, helped the Falcons to a combined record of 28-6 overall between his junior (13-3) and senior (15-3) seasons.

Stonehill (1-0-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) hosts conference rival, Bentley University (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NE-10), in its NE-10 Conference opener today on Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m.

Last season, the Skyhawks finished with a 10-9-0 record overall and a 7-6-0 mark in the NE-10. Stonehill clinched its first winning season since 1997 (9-8-1) and tied the program record for conference wins which was set in 1990 (7-1-1).
