EASTON, Mass. (September 1, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Concordia (N.Y.) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Freshman forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon) paced the offense with a pair of goals while junior midfielder Kevin Gilmartin (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) and sophomore midfielder Tyler Brondyk (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) each added an assist.

Clippers junior forward Ekene Okereke (Beliefield, Germany/Montville Township) notched his third goal of the season at 26:19 to tie the score at 1-1 on beautiful chip pass over the Stonehill backline from senior Mario Fantozzi (Naples, Italy/The Int'l School of the Hague).

Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) made one save to improve to 1-0-1 overall on the season. Senior Luis Barajas (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester (Westchester C.C.)) turned away four saves in the loss (1-0-1).

Montano put the Skyhawks on the scoreboard first at the 19:24 mark with a header on Gilmartin's corner kick near the far left post to beat Barajas for the 1-0 lead. In the second half, Montano broke open the 1-1 tie heading home Brondyk's throw-in near the right corner of the box past the dive of Barajas for his second tally of the contest.

The Skyhawks midfield and backline shutdown the Clippers offensively for the remainder of the second half holding Concordia to just one shot. Stonehill outshot Concordia, 18-6, and won the corners matchup, 9-3.

Stonehill (1-0-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) hosts Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) rival, Bentley University, on Wednesday, September 5 on Skyhawk Field at 4 p.m. Concordia (1-0-1, 0-0-0 ECC) travels to Felician College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. start.
