Stonehill Drops 2-0 Decision To Franklin Pierce

Ravens use a pair of second half goals to remain undefeated on the season

RINDGE, N.H. (September 24, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was handed a 2-0 loss, on the road, by Franklin Pierce University on Saturday night in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action.

Senior forward Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Santo Inacio) guided Franklin Pierce netting both goals in the second half, just one minute and 59 seconds apart from each other, to keep the Ravens undefeated on the season.

Goncalves buried his first of two goals of the contest at 73:03 receiving a pass from teammate Tyler Rosa (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) and firing a shot past Skyhawks goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) into the lower right corner of the net for his second marker of the season.

Moments later at 75:02, Goncalves finished on a beautiful long pass down the left flank from teammate Tom Wampler (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) beating Colella into the upper right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Senior goalkeeper Vinny Papageorgiou (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) turned in his third clean sheet of the season recording two saves in the win. Colella made seven stops for Stonehill.

The Ravens outshot the Skyhawks, 17-10, and held a slim, 5-4, advantage in corners.

Stonehill (3-4, 1-2 NE-10) hosts Assumption College on Tuesday, September 27 at Skyhawk Field in NE-10 action at 4 p.m. Franklin Pierce (7-0, 3-0 NE-10) plays host to Saint Rose in NE-10 action on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
