Skyhawks notch first conference win of the season

EASTON, Mass. (September 13, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team defeated New Haven, 2-1, in its Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) season opener on Tuesday evening at Skyhawk Field.

Senior forward Mark Bolster (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett) and Anthony Campagnano (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) both scored to lead the Skyhawks offensively while freshman goalkeeper Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep.) made three saves to improve to 2-0-0 on the season in as many starts.

Bolster opened up the scoring early in the first half at the 8:18 mark rifling a shot into the top right corner of the net past Chargers goalkeeper J.J. Comeau (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan) for a 1-0 advantage and his second marker of the season.

Colella jumpstarted the play with a punt from the opposite end of the field that senior forward Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) headed for a through-ball to Bolster for the breakaway chance and eventual finish.

In the second half, Campagnano pushed Stonehill ahead 2-0 at 53:16 redirecting a beautiful low cross by Bolster from the right flank into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

New Haven cut the lead in half at 80:01 as Anastasios Petridis (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) came off of the bench to take a free kick from the top of the box and sniped a shot into the lower right corner of the net to make it 2-1.

Comeau finished the contest with five saves in net for the Chargers in the loss.

Stonehill outshout New Haven, 19-11, but lost the corners match-up, 6-4.
