Stonehill Shuts Out Concordia (N.Y.), 2-0

Brown and White tally goals in defeat of Clippers

EASTON, Mass. (September 3, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Concordia (N.Y.) in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Seniors' Jordan Brown (Sheridan, Wyo./The Prout School) and Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Tilton School) both recorded their first goals of the season to lead the offense.

White set up the Skyhawks first goal at 8:18 with a cross from the right side of the box that Brown handled and struck it past Clippers goalkeeper Oscar Acosta-Mendez (Bogota, Columbia) into the lower left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

White made it 2-0 at 24:54 deking Acosta-Mendez out of position on a breakaway bid for his first marker of the season and a 2-0 advantage.

In goal, Acosta-Mendez turned away 10 shots in 75 minutes and 15 seconds of play.

Freshman netminder Adam Colella (Wilmington, Mass./Saint John's Prep.) earned his first shutout of the season in as many starts with two saves late in the second half.

Stonehill outshout Concordia (N.Y.) 20-6 in the contest and won the corners match-up, 5-3.

The Skyhawks return to action on Wednesday, September 7 in their Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference season opener against Bentley, on the road, at 3:30 p.m. The Clippers also hit the road next Wednesday to take on LIU-C.W. Post at 4 p.m.
