Stonehill Shut Out by New Haven, 2-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (October 2, 2010) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team was blanked 2-0 by the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 contest Saturday.

The Skyhawks outshot New Haven by a 12-8 margin but were unable to get past Chargers goalkeeper Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck), who finished with seven saves.

Senior Nick Pezzente (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and freshman Gui Dos Santos (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) scored for New Haven, and senior goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made one save in the Skyhawks' fourth defeat of the season.

Despite early offensive pressure from both sides, the game remained scoreless through the first half as the Chargers did not put a shot on target and Creem turned back four early attempts by Stonehill. New Haven broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when sophomore Joseph D'Antonio (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) took a cross on the right side and set up Pezzente, who put away his first goal of the season. Dos Santos added a second tally in the 82nd minute for the final 2-0 advantage.

Stonehill (4-4-1, 2-4-1 NE-10) will play the next four games at home, beginning with a matchup against Saint Thomas Aquinas College on October 6 at 4 p.m.
