NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 26, 2009) - Southern Connecticut State University, ranked ninth in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, got a second half goal to edge Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action at Jess Dow Field tonight.

Sophomore forward Cedric Panzu (Mons-En-Baroeul, France) broke the deadlock with his second goal of the season 9:58 into the second half. He got on the end of a cross from the right side by classmate Paul Templeton (Saltcoats, Scotland) and headed it into the left corner. Southern was credited with a 16-1 advantage in shots for the second half after the two sides played through a scoreless first half with a combined eight shots.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn./East Haven) made four saves (three first half) to preserve his first shutout of the season. Junior Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) finished with seven stops in goal for Stonehill.

Stonehill nearly opened the scoring in the 20th minute when sophomore Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) got through the Southern backline and found himself on a breakaway. However, Esposito charged off his line and made a kick save on White's shot attempt to keep the match scoreless.
