Skyhawks Drop Season Opener, 3-1
Syracuse, N.Y.
- LeMoyne senior Matt Pecheone notched two goals
and junior David Dipaola scored his second goal of the season as
the Dolphins spoiled the head coaching debut of Stonehill's Jim
Reddish, knocking off the Skyhawks, 3-1, at the Thomas J. Niland
Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
LeMoyne raced out to a 3-0 lead before Stonehill freshman
Michael White (Lisbon, N.H.) scored in the 87th
minute to register his first collegiate goal.
Pecheone opened the scoring when he took a pass from Brandon
Morse and chipped in his first goal of the afternoon to push Le
Moyne ahead, 1-0, at the 23:11 mark. Dipaola then added a header
just over 10 minutes later off of a corner kick to give the hosts a
2-0 advantage.
Pecheone put in an unassisted score, his fourth of the season and
second of the afternoon, just over 20 minutes into the second half
to give the Dolphins a 3-0 advantage.
Between the pipes, junior Steve White finished with one save for Le
Moyne and Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn.) collected three saves
for Stonehill.
The Dolphins held a 14-11 advantage in the shots category,
including a 6-2 edge in the first half. They took nine corner kicks
on the afternoon compared to one for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to
Springfield for a meeting with American International at 4 p.m.
