Stonehill Drops 4-2 Decision To Owls

Easton, Mass. - Despite two goals and a late rally, Stonehill College dropped their fourth game of the season to the Southern Connecticut Owls, 4-2.  The Skyhawks fell to 2-5-2 on the season, 0-3 in the Northeast 10 Conference.

The scoring started midway through the first half when Southern Connecticut senior Colin Jackson drilled home a perfectly placed ball from teammate Nick Duque.  Minutes later sophomore Sean O'Brien headed in a corner kick from Michael Dibartolomeo to give the Owls a halftime lead of 2-0.

Southern Connecticut wasted no time increasing their lead in the second half.  Five minutes in, Marcelo Mena scored another Owl's goal with a beautiful header past Stonehill's goalkeeper, Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.).  Guerrini would be scored on once more by Marino Crocco before he left the game.

The Skyhawks showed true character playing hard the full 90 minutes.  After being held to only one shot on goal in the first half, Stonehill attacked with five shots in the second half.

With time running down on the clock, Todd Shigo (Naples, Maine) scored, assisted by Steven Day (North Haven, Conn.).  Sophomore Martin Early (Winterport, Maine) also scored but it was too little, too late for the Skyhawks.

Both teams will face NE-10 competition later this week.  Southern Connecticut will have a home match against Southern New Hampshire, Saturday, September 22nd.  The Skyhawks also have a home match this Saturday at 1:00pm against Assumption.
