NEW HAVEN, Conn.-- Junior Shane Oglivie (Regina, Sask.) and sophomores Djordje Jankovic (Serbia) and Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) each netted a goal and an assist to lead 10th-ranked Southern Connecticut to a 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer victory over Stonehill Wednesday evening at Jess Dow Field.
The host Owls (7-0-1, 6-0 Northeast-10) struck for three tallies in the first 8:09 of action, as Jackson, graduate student Kieron Jennings (Dagenhan, England) and sophomore Tom Mattera (Norwalk, Conn.) each scored to stake Southern Connecticut to a 3-0 edge at the break. Oglivie and Jankovic netted the final two goals of the night for Southern Connecticut in the 54th and 65th minutes of play, as junior Larry Yeobah (Worcester, Mass.) added an assist for the hosts in their triumph.
Junior Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Southern Connecticut with four saves on the night, while freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) made six stops in 54-plus minutes of play for the visiting Skyhawks (5-4, 2-4 Northeast-10), who also received one save from sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) over the final 36 minutes of action. The Owls outshot Stonehill by a 20-4 margin for the match.
Stonehill travels to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Assumption in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Southern Connecticut heads to Manchester, N.H. on Saturday evening to take on Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
