EASTON, Mass.-- First half goals by junior Andrew Doherty (Malden, Mass.) and freshman Matias Pietropinto (Leominster, Mass.) lifted UMass Lowell to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference mens soccer victory over Stonehill Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Pietropinto gave the visiting River Hawks (10-5-1, 8-4 Northeast-10) the only goal they would need 3:54 into the match off a direct kick, and Doherty converted a feed from sophomore Edens Chery (Brockton, Mass.) in the 27th minute for his ninth marker of the season to provide an insurance tally. Senior Bobby Ritter (North Andover, Mass.) took care of the rest in goal for UMass Lowell, as he made five saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.

Senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) made four stops in net for the host Skyhawks (4-9-1, 3-7 Northeast-10) in the setback as the River Hawks outshot Stonehill by a 17-9 margin for the match.

Stonehill travels to Springfield, Mass. on Monday afternoon to take on American International in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 2:00 p.m., while UMass Lowell closes out its Northeast-10 regular season slate on Tuesday evening by hosting Southern New Hampshire at Cushing Field in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
