EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Jessey Fernandez’s (Hanson, Mass.) goal in the 58th minute of play proved to be the game-winner as New Haven posted a 1-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Stonehill Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Fernandez capitalized on a scramble inside the box 13 minutes into the second half to give the visiting Chargers (1-5) their first victory of the season, as junior Brandon Lilley (Prescott, Ariz.) made four saves to pick up the shutout triumph in goal for New Haven.

Senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) made seven stops in net for the host Skyhawks (1-2-1) in the setback as the Chargers outshot Stonehill by a 14-12 margin.

Stonehill travels to Waltham, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Bentley in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while New Haven hosts Holy Family in a non-league match on Thursday afternoon in West Haven, Conn. that begins at 4:00 p.m.
