EASTON, Mass.-- Junior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) notched a goal and an assist to lead Stonehill to a 2-1 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Felician in opening round play of the 2005 Stonehill Kickoff Classic Friday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Sousa set up the first score of the day for the host Skyhawks (1-0) in the 38th minute of play, as he fed sophomore Joey Silva (Brockton, Mass.) from the left side to give Stonehill a 1-0 edge at the break. Sousa then took a throw-in from senior Brian Gregorio (Naugatuck, Conn.) in the 67th minute to extend the Skyhawk advantage to 2-0, and that tally proved to be the game-winner, as senior Nick Levinson’s (Palisades Park, N.J.) goal with 3:48 remaining enabled the visiting Golden Falcons (0-1) to cut their deficit in half but come no closer.

Senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for Stonehill with one save on the afternoon, while senior Anthony Quarino (Columbus, N.J.) made four stops in net for Felician as the Golden Falcons outshot the Skyhawks by a 12-11 margin.

Stonehill will take on Bloomfield in second round play of the 2005 Stonehill Kickoff Classic on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at Noon, while Felician will face Bentley in Saturday’s other second round match-up beginning at 2:30 p.m.
