EASTON, Mass.-- Junior Jorge Gonzalez’s (North Bergen, N.J.) penalty kick conversion with 7:16 remaining in regulation lifted Bloomfield to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Stonehill in second round play of the 2005 Stonehill Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Gonzalez was fouled in the penalty area in the waning minutes of regulation and forged the draw with his goal for the visiting Deacons (0-1-1), as the host Skyhawks (1-0-1) had taken a 1-0 cushion in the 34th minute of play on sophomore Joey Silva’s (Brockton, Mass.) second goal of the season. Stonehill had a pair of chances to net the game-winner in the final minute of the second overtime period, including a point blank shot at the final horn.

Junior Dennis Amoateng (Bronx, N.Y.) made 14 saves in goal for Bloomfield on the afternoon, as the Skyhawks outshot the Deacons by a 19-18 margin for the match.

Stonehill opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday evening when the Skyhawks head to Manchester, N.H. to take on Southern New Hampshire in a league match that begins at 7:00 p.m.
