WALTHAM, Mass.-- First half goals by freshman Thomas Hernon (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Daniel Paige (Redding, Conn.), along with a second half tally by senior Brian Gregorio (Naugatuck, Conn.), lifted Stonehill to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer victory over rival Bentley Wednesday afternoon at Bentley Field.

Hernon gave the visiting Skyhawks (2-2-1, 1-1 Northeast-10) the only goal they would need in the 28th minute of play when he converted a feed from junior Derek Hebert (Rockland, Mass.) for his first collegiate tally, and Paige staked Stonehill to a 2-0 edge just 1:29 later when he took a pass from fellow senior Mark Bombardier (Hadley, Mass.) for his first marker of the season. Gregorio iced matters for the visitors with an unassisted goal in the 74th minute that closed out the scoring.

Senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) picked up the shutout win in goal for Stonehill with six saves on the afternoon, while senior Greg Ott (Guilford, Conn.) made four stops in the setback for the host Falcons (3-1, 1-1 Northeast-10), who had not allowed a goal all season entering the match. Bentley outshot the Skyhawks by an 18-12 margin for the contest, as Stonehill picked up its first victory over the Falcons in nearly eight seasons, as the last Skyhawk triumph over the Falcons came on September 16, 1997 in a 1-0 Stonehill win at Bentley Field.

Stonehill travels to North Andover, Mass. on Sunday afternoon to take on Merrimack in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 1:00 p.m., while Bentley hosts LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 match on Saturday afternoon at Bentley Field beginning at 2:00 p.m.
