Patrick Leahy is in his third year as head coach of the ice hockey program at Stonehill College. He was named the tenth head coach in program history in May 2011 by Brendan Sullivan, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at the College.

Leahy has quickly revitalized the program, raising Stonehill’s win total each season at the helm and also qualifying for the Northeast-10 Tournament both years. He has posted a 21-27-3 (.441) overall record over his two seasons, including a 12-8-2 (.591) clip in NE-10 play, reaching the NE-10 Tournament Championship match his first season.

Leahy has coached six All-Northeast-10 Conference selections and produced six NE-10 All-Rookie Team picks over his two seasons, including 2011-13 NE-10 Rookie of the Year Chris Tasiopoulos. Leahy’s teams have also produced in the classroom, with three NE-10 Academic All-Conference honorees, including recent graduate Dana Borges, who is a two-time NE-10 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence honoree and Capital One Academic All-American who was named the inaugural NE-10 Man of the Year. Borges, a semifinalist for the Joe Concannon, presented annually to the top American-born collegiate hockey player in New England playing at the Division II or III level, has also collected a pair of Academic All-District selections and signed a professional contract with Evry Peaux Rouges of France’s second division.

Leahy piloted the Stonehill to the Northeast-10 Championship game in his first season, far exceeding the Skyhawks placement in the Conference's preseason poll of fifth place, tying Southern New Hampshire for the last spot in the NE-10. The squad finished second overall in the conference in scoring offense (3.12 g/gm), scoring defense (3/28 g/gm), penalty kill percentage (80.9%) and combined special teams play (50.6%). Four players earned All-Conference honors, the most since the 2007-08 season for the Skyhawks, while freshman goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos was named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year.

Stonehill again reached the postseason in Leahy’s second season, matching its NE-10 win total (6) from the previous season and posting one more overall win (11). The Skyhawks finished second in the NE-10 for scoring (3.81 gpg), including a Conference-best power play (23.2%), while ranking second for combined special teams (51.4%). Leahy’s eye for talent continued to show with four freshman collecting NE-10 All-Rookie Team status, while senior captain Dana Borges was named the inaugural NE-10 Man of the Year after becoming the program’s first Academic All-American.

Leahy has overseen the program’s involvement with Team IMPACT, drafting Jake Quinn from Berkley during his first year, which aims at improving the quality of life for kids facing life-threatening illnesses by creating unparalleled team based support systems.

Leahy joined Stonehill following one season as the varsity hockey coach at King Philip Regional High School in nearby Wrentham. Prior to that, he served four seasons as head coach of the hockey program at The Winchendon (Mass.) School.

Leahy led The Winchendon School to back-to-back 20-win seasons in his final two years as head coach, posting 23 wins in 2007-08 and 22 victories in 2008-09 in which the team won the Saint Sebastian’s Holiday Tournament. He formulated a recruiting strategy that would result in attracting prep school student-athletes that would go on to play at every level of collegiate hockey, including nearly every program in the NE-10 Conference. In addition to his duties with the hockey program in Winchendon, Leahy was weightlifting coach for the athletic department, baseball head coach and junior varsity soccer coach, while also teaching English and world history and serving as an admissions associate.

Leahy has also worked in hockey as a regional scout for Gilmour Academy (2009-10), New England scout for Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League (2009), coach and evaluator for Hockey Night in Boston (2008), on ice coach at the USA Hockey Massachusetts Festival (2008) as well as USA Hockey Select-17 player development assistant coach (2008). He is Level 3 certified with USA Hockey and in the process of getting his Level 4 certification.

Leahy is a 2001 graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and was a member of the ice hockey program, serving as captain for three seasons. He earned All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) honors his junior year. Leahy went on to play parts of two seasons of professional hockey with the Mohawk Valley Prowlers of the United Hockey League (UHL) and Indianapolis Ice of the Central Hockey League (CHL).
