Ice Hockey Falls Short To Saint Anselm, 4-3

Wright sees first multi-goal game

Hall has now had 11 multi-point games in his career with his two assists in this game

FOXBORO, Massachusetts (January 29, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team was unable to hold on as Saint Anselm College topped the Skyhawks in its third game of the Northeast-10 Conference three-game series, 4-3, Tuesday night at Foxboro Sports Center.

For Stonehill, (6-11-1, 1-7-1 NE10), Cameron Wright saw his first multi-goal game of his career, as he scored two goals in the loss, while Kayser Raei picked up his third goal of the season. Wright also chipped in an assist, as Shamus Maloney and Jack Hall registered two helpers each and freshman Chase McKay notched his second game with 40 saves.

After the initial face off, Stonehill won but Saint Anselm quickly took the puck to their attacking zone and saw one shot before the Skyhawks brought the play back to the neutral zone. The Skyhawks' Connor Jewett swung the puck around the boards and Hall collected it on the left side of the net after deflecting a Hawk pass. He found Wright who crashed the cage for a one timer after Maloney tipped the pass through the middle 52-seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. Saint Anselm saw its first power play opportunity at 16:02 and the Hawks saw two shots from Anthony Iacullo before Bryan Green slapped dish past McKay at 17:37, as John Femia and Shawn Moors passed it around the zone to Green to even the score at one, 1-1.

Both teams saw power play opportunities in the second period and both halted any offensive breaks. With 55-seconds left on the penalty, the Hawks won the faceoff in their defensive zone and Sean Verrier and Jake Grade took the puck around the cage to find Jeremy Carignan mid ice. Carignan went one-on-one and took a shot from the left circle for a one-goal lead at 10:53, 2-1.

In the third frame, Stonehill saw its second power play chance at 5:47 and was successful on finding the back of the cage at 6:04. Maloney and Murray assisted on the play as Wright tallied his fourth power play goal of the season and sixth of his career for the equalizer, 2-2. Saint Anselm scored two goals in three minutes, including their second power play goal of the game to take a two-goal lead, 4-2. With a little over four minutes left in the game, Saint Anselm saw back-to-back penalties and Stonehill capitalized on one of them. The Skyhawks skated the puck down the ice and set up in their offensive zone passing the puck at the top of the key. Wright saw an initial shot which richoceted off the pipe and Raei was in place to put the dish back in for his third goal and third power play goal of the season. Stonehill fought hard in the final minutes to fight back, but Saint Anselm's defense held the Skyhawks to two shots.

The Skyhawks host Assumption College on Friday night at Foxboro Sports Center for its second game of the three-game series with a puck drop of 7:20 p.m. for Stonehill's Purple & White game.
