MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (January 12, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team fell to Northeast-10 Conference foe Saint Anselm College, 5-2 after tying the game at one and cutting the deficit to one later in the game.

For Stonehill, (4-10-0, 1-6-0 NE10), Charles Page scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season, Connor Jewett and Nicholas Godin notched assists. Senior goaltender Billy Palmer  recorded 27 saves in the game.

Saint Anselm kicked off the game with a 1-0 lead in the first period as Jake Grade sent a shot from the right wing that slid into the cage at 5:20 with assists from Anthony Iacullo and Liam O'Sullivan. Stonehill went 0-for-2 and Saint Anselm went 0-for-1 in power plays in the first frame, while the Skyhawks outshot the Hawks 10-9.

Stonehill was able to quickly even out the score with Page's fourth goal of the season at 2:20 in the second period, 1-1. The Hawks saw a shot by Joey Harrington that was stopped by Palmer's pad, and Jewett and Godin assisted in the play as Page turned around and shot the puck from the left side of the cage. Later in the second period, Stonehill looked to clear the puck from their defensive zone, but the puck was misplayed and Sean Verrier walked the dish into the cage for a one-goal lead at 11:49, 2-1. Forty seconds before the period was over, Stonehill was called for a penalty and with a man down Iacullo slapped the puck from the right circle to the left side of the cage for a two goal advantage, 3-1.

Stonehill saw back-to-back shots in the first minute of play in the third period, and at the two-minute mark, Stonehill once again saw Page put away the puck. Saint Anselm was able to skate the puck to their offensive zone, but before they could set up a play, Page quickly stole the loose puck and he threaded the needle in a one-on-one, lifting the dish up and under the cage, cutting the deficit to one again, 3-2. Saint Anselm once again put two on the board to extend the lead, 5-2. Mike Ferraro scored the fourth goal for the Hawks at 6:46 after a faceoff and a one-timer to the back of the cage. Late in the game, Stonehill pulled Palmer with a minute and 30-seconds remaining, and the Skyhawks tried to contain the play to the neutral zone, but Verrier was lucky enough to recover the puck and get an open shot on the net for the fifth goal of the game, 5-2.

Stonehill continues Conference play, as they host Saint Michael's College for their second and third games of the three-game series. Both games will be played at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Massachusetts, with the first game played on Saturday, January 19 at 6:40 p.m. and the second on Sunday, January 20 at 2:40 p.m.
